Photographed in six different countries over the course of two years, Sanja Marusic’s “Flowers in December” is a series of portraits in which human presence is almost incidental: The real subjects are the lively landscapes. Highly color-saturated trees and vegetation frame people in transitional places; walking up a hill or floating in a pool, they are captured in a moment often overlooked or forgotten. These quiet scenes would be mundane — if Marusic’s vibrant hues weren’t so majestic. — LAUREN POGGI
