Designer Fabian Reimann releases ‘Space Colonies: A Galactic Freemen’s Journal’, a compilation of historical publications on space travel and colonization. Early space dreamers, such as American physicist Gerard K. O’Neill and author Stewart Brand, developed and cultivated ideas on how humanity could persist into space. Stewart Brand, specifically as the editor of the cybercommune-centric publication Whole Earth Catalogue, ruminated on communal living in the 60’s and 70’s and further on its continuing in space. ‘A Galactic Freeman’s Journal’ is a remission of these tropes in the form of a photo essay, compiling historical, present, and theoretical materials. This book presents a mosaic of fact and fiction to parade the delightfully varied images of humanity in space.
