sacai Spring Summer 18 is a return to roots, revisiting the essence of the label in an effort to rediscover the purest and most feminine expressions of designer Chitose Abe’s original vision for the house. Much in vein of the style that’s become her signature, Abe created hybrid designs made up of multiple pieces instead of separate ones. Most styles in this collection can be worn multiple ways to emphasize the idea of functionality she’s seeks to build into a woman’s wardrobe. As an example, a hero piece for this season is a jacket that is meant to be worn normally or draped from internal backpack straps where sleeves can be tied to create a bustier-like silhouette that mimics an archetypical feminine couture shape. Materials range from military camouflage and ripstop, to lingerie camisoles and crochet lace as the designer explores ultra-femininity juxtaposed with couture silhouettes influenced by masculine, military, and punk elements. Ever re-purposing familiar, everyday references, sacai’s spring summer offering is a refreshing deja vu for the things we love the most about Chitose Abe’s storied brand.
