LONDON — Were it any other season much of the fashion month constituency would have already migrated south to Milan by Tuesday night of London Fashion Week. This season a new circus was in town to keep the party going one more evening…and what an evening it was thanks to Tommy Hilfiger and his Rock Circus! This roving see-now-buy-now jamboree in recent seasons has gone from South Street Seaport to Venice Beach and now to just north of Camden Town. This runway experience was engineered to resemble an arena rock concert, replete with merchandise stalls, food vendors, and acrobats. The Fall 2017 show surveyed the myriad offerings from Tommy Hilfiger, TommyXGigi, Hilfiger Collection, and Hilfiger Edition. Never mind the branding particulars, though, this deliberate mashup of 1990s grunge and preppy styling was a weapons grade commercial detonation, the blast radius of which ought to reach the corners of the globe should if Tommy Hilfiger’s enthusiasm is any early indication. What a party, but more importantly, what a send-off for London Fashion Week! On the evening, Grace Elizabeth, Eli Epperson, Alanna Arrington, Erik van Gils, Shujing Zhou, Moira Berntz, Hiandra Martinez, Marjan Jonkman, and Wangy featured in the lineup. Spring 2018 ready-to-wear coverage continues in Milan starting Wednesday.
