Last night, the house of Missoni gave new meaning to the art of fashion when they announced the launch of Surface Conversion—a unique project fusing contemporary culture, modern art, and fashion design. To celebrate the series, the storied Italian house hosted an opening reception at the Madison Avenue boutique featuring a live performance by The Cornichons and works by Brooklyn-based artist Servane Mary. The project, originally developed by Angela Missoni herself, is focused on fostering collaboration between the parallels, as was mirrored by the similarly varied guest list. A mix of fashion and art world luminaries, including Pat Cleveland, Gilles Bensimon, and Mia Moretti, came out to get a first look at the exhibit set to run through January 29, 2017.
Meanwhile, London-based jewelry designer Noor Fares presented her new line, Akasha, at Francesco Clemente’s studio in Manhattan. The collection itself was inspired by a trip to Myanmar, but the celebration radiated a clear sense of English refinement, along with subtle downtown vibes. Attendees, such as Giovanna Battaglia Engelbert, Claire Distenfeld, and Tatiana Santo Domingo, were treated to an afternoon tea with vegan bites by Jay Astafa, set to the tune of gong bath artist Jarrod Byrne from Brooklyn Healing Arts. Consider the evening a testament to the transformative power of artful accessorizing.
