TAKAHIRO MIZUSHIMA – LONG HUG TOWN
Photographer Takahiro Mizushima was born in Tokyo in 1988. He graduated from Tokyo Visual Arts School. Passionate about street photography, he directed his first solo exhibition, Tokyo Lonely Heart Land in 2009. In 2014, he also participated in an exhibition of public works sponsored by the Guardian Garden Gallery (Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo). where he is finalist. Starting in 2016, as a member of the independent gallery Totem Pole Photo Gallery, he began his work focusing on photo exhibitions. In 2017, his work Long Hug Town is highly acclaimed by critics: he won the Young Art Taipei Photo Eye Awards. This project consists of 134 shots from his personal collection, which he installs on the entire surface of a large wall. Mizushima explores the daily life of the inhabitants of the megalopolis in what is most ordinary and strangest at the same time. Illustrating the constant flow of Tokyo’s urban life, he paints a mysterious, intense and funny portrait of Tokyo and its people. First published in 2016 in the form of a zine, Long Hug Town is now proposed in the form of a beautiful book of 176 pages, published in a limited edition of 1000 copies, by STAIRS PRESS editions .
