British-born designer Claire Campbell’s extensive knowledge of fashion history, especially in work wear, together with her uniquely three-dimensional approach to clothing design, is brought together in the HIGH label. By looking at each look or garment ‘in-the-round’ without distinction between the back, front or interior of a piece, the finish she achieves in her work is worthy of couture. While she operates in the field of ready-to-wear, Campbell produces what she calls Everyday Couture, that is, clothing that is created with all the attention to detail associated with couture construction along with a respect for traditional craftsmanship.
Campbell often travels north to Scandinavia for inspiration; the HIGH Autumn/Winter 2017 collection campaign was shot in Sweden by photographer Carl Bengtsson. The HIGH KNIT collection sees Claire Campbell reference Swedish artist Carl Larsson, a key member of the Arts & Crafts movement who used bold colour and graphic pattern. With his particular mix of traditional and modern, Carl Larsson’s work remains totally relevant, notably in his use of geometric motifs and the freshness and honesty with which he depicted his subjects and their environment.
Larsson’s signature use of shape and colour is entirely compatible with HIGH KNIT design and construction, with its unique combination of aesthetic and technical process. Claire Campbell’s designs are both ergonomic and dynamic in a way that ensures that even the strongest pieces within the HIGH KNIT collection can be worn with ease and comfort.
HIGH KNIT brings Everyday Couture to life. The clothes created have a timeless quality and an appeal that transcends any passing trends. By combining a rich heritage of utility clothing with the most innovative production techniques available, Claire Campbellseamlessly combines tradition and modernity.
