Art and youth are a powerful combination, more often than not, resulting in striking work that is out to shock. It is one of the (many) advantages that we have when we are young – we are out to shock and care little about the reaction that we will get. As a young artist, Leo Rydell Jost fits neatly into this description. Jost is best known for “Colored Dudes” – a book of drawings, compiled of works developed since 2014. It came to publication after support from Luis Venegas, the creator of publications such as Candy and EY!. He also helped out with the art direction on Colored Dudes. The Internet plays an important part in Jost’s work – Tumblr, the random act of scrolling (addictive) and the works of Warhol and Cocteau have all been influential in creating his own unique vision. The drawings that he creates are all his own – a combination of paper cut outs, tracing paper and other random components, all casually glued together.
