Hender Scheme is taking sneakers somewhere that is certainly unique. The brand’s “Homage Collection” brings adidas Originals back to Tokyo, where the founder Ryo Kashiwazaki ‘s career had gone from a cobbler studying psychology, to bringing his care for craft to the global design industry. Keeping tradition a theme throughout the line, each pair is handmade in Tokyo, thereby elevating a typically mass-produced product. An important element Ryo has brought to the brand has been through his efforts in reflecting the “gender schema” theory inspired by his roots in psychology and attempting to transcend the societal structure and stigma surrounding sex as it relates to appearance. This concept has carried through into both the shoes for adidas, as well as campaign featuring the collaboration— recalibrates focus on the care for craft versus one’s image and provides a fresh perspective for fashion ideals.
adidas Originals by Hender Scheme will be available for general release September 2nd.
